american flower garden

My current painting project has been working my way through each of the 50 US State Flowers. This has been a meditative practice of remembering the beauty and possibilities we have as Americans. In heart wrenching climate disasters such as the LA fires, hurricanes and unprecidented winter storms and divisive political times, painting these flowers has been a calming exercise in rebellious joy.

"I’ve been painting, drawing and taking pictures for as long as I can remember. I love experimenting with color, materials and form and letting my intuition lead the way. I’m inspired by nature— Mother Nature’s color combinations, and the patterns and symmetries found in the natural world. I’m also inspired by the patterns and textures found in architecture and urban design.
I love experimenting with art as a complimentary practice to my design work. In design, I can get caught up in the striving for perfectionism on the computer, while painting pulls me out of that, reminding me to trust the process and embrace imperfections. “

A magical historical beautiful country rich with texture patterns and color. I had the opportunity to explore Portugal last year and found so much to be inspired by. My photography and small mixed-media artwork here are just a glimpse into the vast exciting place it is. I can’t wait to go back again.
